Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and the Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS) have appointed Louis Winston as the department's new Chief and Tavon Claggett as Deputy Chief. Louis Winston has a long history of service in the firefighting community, having served on several regional committees and boards, including the EMS Education Council of the Maryland Emergency Medical Services Systems Institute, the Howard County Community College EMS Program Advisory Board, and the Baltimore City Community College EMS Advisory Board. He joined the HCDFRS on February 12, 1990 and has expressed his gratitude for being given this opportunity. Tavon Claggett is a former Deputy Chief of the City of Baltimore Fire Department and will now assume the position of Deputy Chief of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
The appointment of both Louis Winston as Chief and Tavon Claggett as Deputy Chief is a testament to their commitment to public service and their dedication to keeping Howard County safe. The HCDFRS is confident that these two individuals will lead the department with distinction.
